parkway pavilion
Concept for a retail space for souvenirs and refreshments during baseball, softball and little league baseball at the Baseball Diamonds of Von Colln Athetlic Field on the Ben Franklin Parkway. The parkway pavilion is a sustainable light timber construction made entirely of flat straight planks and beams salvaged, repurposed and refinished from demolished structures in Philadelphia.
Emerging from the northwest corner of North 22nd Street and the Parkway, it becomes urban furniture integrated into the landscape: a staircase offers elevated views of the diamonds and seating for people watching with great views of City Hall*, the Center City skyline, Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania making the University City skyline across the Schuylkill River.
