VGADC can be a great metropolis like the ones Ludwig Hilberseimer did see, a neo-Manhattanite speculation of maximum capacity a la Hugh Ferris's charcoal renditions of code compliant potential for the architecture forms of parcels extruded, setback stepped and crenelated. Incessantly repetitive architectural ubiquity broken by the low slung intrusive forms running perpendicular to the griddy grain flanked by broad illuminated corridors of horizontal volumes and crossed over by building bridge.
Operating as a slice of urbanity of contemporary megalopolitan life, the scale of which now commonly seen in the vertical cities Asia has developed from former hinterlands and exurbs still not seen and may never be seen in the United States, the first quarter of the 21st Century in architecture, landscape architecture regional planning city planning, real estate development and industry has clearly been dominated by Asia. The lesser told story is of the South American megacities who, with the exception of Mexico DF, have surpassed North American cities and become megacities. The contiguous masses of urban environment that China and Korea have been building are daunting.
The unprecedented expedience, scale of development, quality of technology and capital investment at their disposal is unimaginable to the oblivious involuntarily separated from emerging markets and new competitive categories of industry economy and experience unseen.
The megacities and megalopolises expand through polycentrism across typologies of labor commerce education industry government. Remote participation in the workforce prior to COVID 19 gave proof of telecommuting productivity; we find many industries don't need a mono centric accumulation of labor. Individual contributions can be physically autonomous from the company. Other industries, like education have a gradient of accommodating remote participation, but quality of infrastructure and connectivity is a huge factor in consistency of interaction negating the technical difficulties excuse syndrome. In terms of this critical infrastructure the distance between the worlds best and the average is now further apart than ever.
Above ground pole mounted wiring is nearly identical to the original connection developed over a century ago. Subterranean is a different issue of similar capacities and limits. It seems obvious that we have been doing this for WiFi and television and telephonic systems - when will electricity cellular cable and wifi converge and give us what I would call Maestro (conductor).
